Children and Youth

We are committed to reaching the next generation with the good news of Jesus and have groups for different age groups as follows. We believe that the Christian message is the most exciting message there is for children and young people.

Groups are run on Sundays, with some midweek, by a committed team of volunteers. At St John's we have adopted a Safeguarding Policy to make sure that we provide a safe environment for all. You will find our policy here.

If you are a parent or young person and would like to find out more about what we do, please speak to our Vicar Fergus Pearson, who can put you in touch with leaders of the group.

Our youth groups are no longer meeting in person. Please contact Si or see our news page for more information.

Sundays

Crèche, (age 0-3)

11am - 12pm

We have a crèche for 0 - 3 year old's running during the 11am service. The crèche has plenty of able helpers to keep young one's entertained and amused throughout the service. You are welcome to leave your child, or sit in with them on the comfy sofa's in our church lounge. There's always some tables out with jigsaws or colouring, and a small slide. Perfect for a young child to be themselves.

Scramblers & Climbers, (age 3-7)

11.15am - 12pm (approx)

Scramblers and Climbers is aimed at 3 – 7 year olds and is the younger half of our Sunday School program here at St. Johns during the 11am service. We meet for a time of games, and a time of learning about Jesus, and who the bible tells us he is. We have a rotation of leaders and helpers who make the session as fun and informative as possible. Children often come out the session with a crafted something or other and some new knowledge about Christianity.

HP's - Humblenessy People, (age 7-14)

11.15am - 12pm (approx)

HP's runs every Sunday during the 11am service, (except when there is an All Age Service). The activities and Bible study are centred around the same Bible passage that is being preached in the main church. The Bible passages are part of a series and each week’s activities/study is set in context within the series.

CYFA, (age 14-18)

6.30pm - 8.30pm

CYFA is for young people in years 10 - 13 to meet together for crazy games, snacks and time in the Bible discovering how Jesus is real and relevant for today.  The group meets 6.30pm - 8.30pm every Sunday night in St John's church hall and also monthly for socials as well as two weekend residentials each year.  There are several adult leaders that plan and teach each week. The large group has youth from all area schools, some from St John's but open to anyone who is hoping to explore what faith in Jesus Christ is all about.

Through the week

Tiny Tots, (toddler group)

9.30am - 11am, Tuesday, Wednesday

A welcoming environment that has become known to many in our parish over the years. As well as a time for the children to play, there is also the opportunity for parents and carers to talk over a cup of tea. We have a good range of toys and activities. An important part of the session for many is our Bible thought and singing. We also have special activities such as our sponsored toddle, to raise money for a good cause, as well as celebrations at Easter and Christmas. At present we are quite subscribed, but if we can fit you in we will! Please contact our church office.

Explorers, (age 7-11)

6.15pm - 7.15pm, Tuesday

Explorers is for children 7 to 11 years old (school years 3, 4, 5 and 6). We meet, term time only, on Tuesday evenings from 6.15pm to 7.15pm in St John's church hall. As our children get older, they start to ask questions about their faith. At Explorers we explore Christianity and the meaning of the Bible. We learn about Bible stories and characters through games, drama, music, reading and crafts. We aim to teach the Bible in a fun and practical way, encouraging the children to think for themselves and develop their understanding and faith.

We use XStream from the Scripture Union Light series. The teaching equips the Explorers to know Jesus Christ, to learn from God and to live boldly for him. The Scripture Union "Light” series gives them the opportunity to learn and think and to discover who God is, what he is like, what he does, and how we can get involved in that?
